What a wonderful summer of music it has been in Chagford!
Today saw the final concert in this year’s Summer Music series at St Michael the Archangel, bringing to a close twelve weeks of wonderful lunchtime concerts, with audiences enjoying an impressive variety of musicians and musical styles.
The series opened in June with The Redford Sisters, followed by classical guitarist Alison Smith and young violinist Teagan Craggs. July brought the Torside Trio, the vibrant folk music of Družba, three talented young musicians from the Two Moors Festival Young Musicians’ Competition, and Love, Laughter and Rogues, a musical exploration of Jane Austen’s life and novels.
August continued the musical journey with Woodwouse, The Tarra Ensemble, internationally acclaimed local harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, and folk duo Harbottle and Jonas, before today’s final concert from the Spotlight Trio, bringing the series to a fantastic finale.
It has been wonderful to see such a good response to the concerts, with audiences varying from week to week but consistently showing just how much people have enjoyed having live music at the heart of Chagford’s summer. Familiar faces have returned week after week, while visitors and new listeners have also joined us along the way.
And what a way to finish! The Spotlight Trio drew a standing-room-only audience, with every available seat taken as people gathered to enjoy their lively and engaging jazz performance.
A huge thank you goes to all the musicians who have shared their talents with us, to the sponsors whose generosity has helped make the concerts possible, and to everyone who has come along and supported the series.
It has been a joyful summer of music, and we hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
