Holy Trinity in Drewsteignton is very much in the centre of the village. Alongside the community-owned pub, the church, with an Honesty Store, a comfy sitting area and a meeting space in the back forms part of the village hub. People are in and out of the church all day and the building is open 14 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Church
The church is mentioned in Doomsday but it is believed that the current building dates back to the 14th century.
Within the last five years, we have removed some of the Victorian pews and created a wonderful space at the back of the church which is used for a number of purposes. These include:
- An Honesty Store selling non-perishable essentials and eggs. People take what they want and pay using our card machine or writing their names in the Honesty Book. The store is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.
- A comfy seating area and an informal meeting space. This can be used by anyone in the community free of charge.
- Parties, quizzes, small scale village events and pre- or post-funeral, christening or wedding refreshments.
- Informal worship including Family Service and reflective contemplative worship.
The church has no toilet but there is a public toilet situated below the churchyard on the road to Fingle Bridge. The church has a hearing loop, and also free WIFI.
Typical service schedule
The church has weekly worship occasions on a monthly schedule as follows:
- First Sunday of the month: Family Service at 5pm – an informal child-friendly service with high tea for all those attending.
- Second Sunday of the month: Holy Communion at 11:15am – a family friendly and welcoming occasion often using a Celtic form of communion liturgy.
- Third Sunday of the month: Reflective evening worship at 7pm – a quiet occasion to allow us to pause, ponder and pray. An informal service of prayer, music and contemplation.
- Fourth Sunday of the month: Morning worship at 11:15am – a morning prayer with a difference. We have a variety of worship leaders who each provide a special and individual service on these fourth Sundays.
