On Wednesday 4th May I was delighted to be licensed by The Rt Revd Dr Mike Harrison, Bishop of Exeter, as Associate Priest in the North Dartmoor Parishes. A licensing service involves the swearing of oaths to the King and the Bishop of Exeter and making legal declarations in relation to upholding the laws of the Church of England. It is also a wonderful occasion to celebrate the ministry of the local churches and to step forward together as followers of Christ in our communities. The service was lovely with joyful hymns, music from the choir and an excellent sermon from the Bishop. The church was full of new faces, familiar ones and family and friends. Thank you to all who participated and assisted in whatever way.
A bit more about me – I’m the Revd Helen Blaine, and until recently held the post of Rector in the Winkleigh Mission Community. Prior to that I served my curacy in Radlett, in Hertfordshire. I’m married to Alastair who is a Chaplain in the Royal Navy. We share the Rectory in Moretonhampstead with our rescue dogs – Gus and Tallie, some chickens and Florence the Campervan! We are delighted to be living here and to be able to get out on to Dartmoor more often – our Tor total is currently 115! I’m currently studying for a Masters in Worship and Liturgical studies and also have an interest in ecclesiastical embroidery and textiles. Do come and say hello if you see me around.
